Built in 1860, Strathisla guest house is one of the 'grand old ladies' of the hill country bungalows. Situated in the highland hinterland of Matale where the days are warm and the nights refreshingly cool, Strathisla bungalow is now open to all as boutique guest house. Whether its taking a dip in the local waterhole, exploring the local villages and surrounding tea country, hiking the Knuckle ranges or simply wiling the day away with endless cups of tea on the expansive verandah, Strathisla guest house will be sure to provide all with relaxation and peace. For those feeling a little more adventurous, Strathisla bungalow is perfectly positioned to enjoy day trips to all the major sites in the cultural triangle; Kandy being 50mins to the sth and Sigiria only 60mins to the nth. Despite its proximity to the major sites, Strathisla tea estate bungalow is located in an area completely off the tourist track and therefore makes it the perfect point from which to explore the breathtaking scenery of the highlands. ROOMS: there are 4 spacious bedrooms and one separate villa - each with 2 double beds and ensuite which can easily accommodate a family of 4 (maximum 2 adults and 2 children). Additional bed in a room is USD $10. Maximum number of additional beds in a room is 1. Total capacity of the guesthouse is 20, although other beds can be brought in for $10 per person. All rooms are decorated in a colonial style and have superb views of the surrounding hill country. ACTIVITIES: there are many interesting scenic walks around the local area as well as hiking in the Knuckles ranges. Along with swimming in the pool and the local waterhole, we also have a small basketball court and a large grassy area to play badminton or volleyball. There is a small library and games rack and the lounge room has satellite tv and a selection of dvds. Wifi is available free of charge. DIRECTIONS: Heading north along the A9 road from Kandy, take a right hand turn 3 kms before Matale up the Kandenuwara rd.(B461). Cross over the small railway bridge and head upto Alwatta (approx.6kms) to the 24km marker. 50 metres past the marker on the right is a small unsealed road which will take you to Strathisla. Guest access Strathisla tea estate accomodation provides guests with one large bedroom, each with 2 double beds and ensuite along with access to all the mainpublic areas of the house barring the kitchen. Other publice areas include 2 lounge areas, the dining room, the upstairs balcony area, the spacious terrace and all the garden and poolside areas. The only off limit area is the area around Monkey Manor when it is being rented out which is located down a set of steps below the Yoga Shala and Massage room. During your stay As the owner of Strathisla tea estate bungalow, I am only present for around half the year at any one time. When I am present I always give my guests plenty of space but I am certainly available if needed. It must be said that my very capable manager Jeykumar is always on hand to provide all our guests with whatever sevice they need. Other things to note We have 2 very friendly dogs who all love playing with our guests - Rocky and Betsy.
