Guests can elect a self-catering stay, which still includes ski and boot fitting and lift pass delivery, or a fully catered holiday, which includes chef service, appetizers and champagne before a four-course dinner on several nights and even ski instruction for the first two days. Villa Alex has its own private ski storage, elevator and balconies with mountain views, and guests are welcome in the shared indoor pool, hammam, spa and massage room on the chalet’s ground floor. Inside the villa, clean-lined furnishings make a modern statement against traditional architecture. For your convenience, Alex can be divided into two independent apartments or used as one large living space. In the great room’s sitting area, a plush rug, plump sofas, a stone fireplace and a ceiling of exposed wooden beams lend a cozy, welcoming feel no matter how hard the snow is falling outside the nearly wall-to-wall sliding glass doors. Try out raclette, fondue or other local specialties in the fully equipped kitchen and enjoy a hearty apres-ski meal surrounded by quaint built-in cupboards and chic black armchairs in the formal dining area. Alex is made up of two three-bedroom apartments: Triftji and Hornli. All six bedrooms have king beds that can be converted to two twin beds, en-suite bathrooms and private balcony access. And like the apartments’ common living areas, the bedrooms have charming wood paneling, cheerful floral-print drapes and refined details like tufted headboards and benches. Plan to fly into Malpensa Airport, a 176 km drive from the villa, Zurich Airport, 235 km away, or Geneva International Airport, 240 km away. Once you’ve arrived at Alex, it’s an 8-minute walk or ski to the Matterhorn Express lift and a 1 km walk or short electric taxi ride to shopping and dining in central Zermatt. Though you can ski nearly year-round in this region of the Swiss Alps, you can also play a memorable round in the shadow of the iconic peak at Golf Club Matterhorn, a 10 km drive from the villa.
