The space The “Riverhouse” is located on the famous Cable Hole on the Skykomish River in the delightful neighborhood of Big Bend. This home has been in our family for thirty years. The Cable Hole is known for it’s light current where you will watch or can partake in swimming, floating, or steelhead fishing. There is a bald eagles nest 200 feet to the left of our property, where you can see the eagles grabbing fish out of the river. There are two mountain spring fed waterfalls across from our property. Our property has a large grassy backyard with a fire pit and direct access to the beach. The property also includes a hot tub, large sunbathing deck, BBQ, and an art studio with a pottery wheel and a paint studio for your inner artist. The Riverhouse is equipped with board games, Xbox, high speed Internet, Amazon Alexa, Roku, smart TV’s, Bose Bluetooth speaker and Netflix. It also includes two belt driven bicycles and one children’s bicycle. Big Bend is a nice paved community where jogging and riding bicycles around the neighborhood are enjoyable and encouraged. Helmets are included. The house has three bedrooms and an addition with a futon bed. It comfortably sleeps six people. The master bedroom has a king size bed. The second bedroom has a full size bed. The third bedroom has a twin size bed with a large architecture desk for your laptop or work needs. There is a cedar filled master bathroom with a soaking tub. The main bathroom has a large shower. Big Bend is a private neighborhood with two private parks. The first park has a sandy beach where Proctor Creek runs into the Skykomish River. It’s one of the best swimming and sun tanning beaches on the river. The second park has a basketball court, swings and a merry-go-round. All dogs are welcome with an additional pet deposit of thirty dollars. I am always accessible to you if you have any questions. You can call anytime, day or night. We are excited to share our family retreat with you. Enjoy! When you’re visiting the Riverhouse there are two places that you’ll want to make destinations to eat. The Sultan Bakery has wonderful breakfast and lunch & is known for their donuts. Zeke’s Drive Inn is located across the highway from Big Bend and is easily walkable from the Riverhouse. The Drive Inn is famous for their burgers and shakes. https://www.facebook.com/OfficialZekesDriveIn https://www.yelp.com/biz/sultan-bakery-sultan-2 As a native to Gold Bar I would suggest these hikes. There are a lot hiking trails to chose from, but these four hikes are easily accessible and my favorite. Taking a guided horseback riding tour alongside the river is one of my favorite activities. Alpine Adventure is the best for guided river rafting tours. In July and August, search Big Bend for low land huckleberries and blackberries. They are plentiful. https://www.wta.org/go-hiking/hikes/heybrook-lookout Heybrook Lookout is a short and moderately steep hike through a fern and moss covered forest to a fun, staircase-ridden lookout with great views of the nearby mountains. If you are introducing someone to hiking, limited on time, or trying to add on another hike or activity in the area, this is the hike for you. https://www.wta.org/go-hiking/hikes/barclay-lake The 2.2-mile trail to Barclay Lake starts directly from the parking lot, heading east-southeast through an area that has recovered from clear-cut status. For most of its course, the trail follows the path of Barclay Creek, which is tucked into a narrow valley between Gunn and Merchant Peaks to the north and Baring Mountain to the south. https://www.wta.org/go-hiking/hikes/wallace-falls And unlike many trails, which sacrifice peripheral scenery on the journey for the prospect of a grand summit view, the Woody Trail is consistently gorgeous as you wind your way along the Wallace River and approach the nine dazzling falls. https://www.wta.org/go-hiking/hikes/lake-serene Lake Serene and Bridal Veil Falls compete for attention on this trail. Either would be a worthy destination by themselves and combined they are a great day on the trail. From the parking lot, where a Northwest Forest Pass is required, the trail follows an old road bordered by towering salmonberry bushes and deciduous trees. The berries ripen in early to mid June and the best ones are found high above your head. http://www.skylandranch.org Skyland Ranch is directly across the Cable Hole from the riverhouse. The ranch has been operating for more than twenty years. It provides hourly horse rentals all year every day except Tuesdays. http://www.alpineadventures.com/skykomish.html#family Alpine Adventures offers guided whitewater rafting trips & scenic raft floats. This easy floating section of river on the "Skykomish River" provides an opportunity to experience the wonders of nature. The looming presence of Mt. Index rising nearly 6,000 ft. from the valley floor reminds you that you're in the heart of the Cascade Mountains. We often see wildlife along the river and share fun and interesting facts as the guides help to put the whole alpine forest ecosystem into perspective. The trip starts at Big Eddy State Park and is a beautiful leisurely ride downstream to Sultan. From there you'll ride back to our Outpost in Gold Bar on the Alpine Adventures shuttle. The trip is roughly four hours long.
