The house is set on 5 acres (and surrounded by many more) of woods adjacent to the Berkshires. It's in New York State, along the Massachusetts border. It's a comfy house, with 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms; it can easily accommodate up to 11 people. The house is very private; you would hardly know there are any other people in the area. Down the road, there are dairy and horse farms. The space The house has a spacious wrap-around deck with a large picnic table, Adirondack chairs, a large grill and 2 firepits. Propane and some firewood is supplied. There are TV's in the living room and master bedroom and a stone fireplace. The living room has a half-cathedral ceiling, and the second floor looks over the main floor. There's a new well-stocked very clean kitchen and the dining room table can sit up to 12 people when the 2 leaves are put in. There's very fast Wifi (100 mbps- see the pic of the speed test) so that when you're not exploring the beautiful area, or hanging out with your family, you can get all your work done! What you will love in the neighborhood: The house is very accessible to the local town of Hillsdale by a short 3 mile drive. During the summer, the trees that surround the house are in bloom and you feel totally surrounded by nature. In the winter, when the leaves are off, you have a panoramic view thru the trees of the Taconic mountains. In the fall, the leaves change in a dizzying display of colors. During the summer, there are many, many cultural festivals and things to see, including TANGLEWOOD (home of the Boston Symphony during the summer), JACOBS PILLOW DANCE FESTIVAL(a world-renowned dance festival), THE SHAKESPEARE THEATRE FESTIVAL, WILLIAMSTOWN THEATRE FESTIVAL, NORMAN ROCKWELL MUSEUM, etc, etc, etc. Also, there are the mountains for hiking (e.g., BASH BISH FALLS is an easy 'kid-friendly' 20-minute walk thru the woods starting at TACONIC STATE PARK - only about a 10-minute drive from the house), lakes for swimming and boating (LAKE TAGHKANIC STATE PARK and COPAKE LAKE), biking is popular at the HARLEM VALLEY RAIL TRAIL (a biking trail thru the woods and farmland about 10 minutes from the house). The APPALACHIAN TRAIL is only about 15 miles away, as is MT. WASHINGTON STATE FOREST. Popular music festivals within a 10-minute drive include the FALCON RIDGE FOLK FESTIVAL. The house is located between GREAT BARRINGTON, MA (about 20 minutes away), and HUDSON, NY (about 25 minutes away). Hudson is the new antique capital of NY and Great Barrington has many, many great restaurants, cafes, and shops. During the winter, the ski slopes of CATAMOUNT (about 8 minutes from the house) and BUTTERNUT (about 20 minutes) beckon. Catamount is great for beginners and Butternut is much better for those more advanced. Cross-country skiing trails and snowshoeing are also nearby. In the warmer months, Catamount turns into a huge Aeriel Adventure Park - including 12 ropes courses, 50 zip lines, and mountain biking trails. There is a large grill on the wraparound deck, and also a firepit if you'd like to sit by the fire and roast marshmallows. There's another stone firepit on the lawn. It is also a birdwatcher's paradise- recently guests have seen red-headed woodpeckers, red-winged blackbirds, and finches, among others. It's on a quiet road near hiking trails, waterfalls, farms, and orchards. Additional information Extremely relaxing when you want it to be, but many awesome activities close by when you're ready: skiing, hiking, music, food, zip lines, biking, theatre, museums, boating, etc. We look forward to hosting you and hope you enjoy the bottle of champagne and snacks left for you upon your arrival. Feel free to use anything in the house so that your stay is comfortable and fun. Guest access The entire house and 5 acres of land to hike and explore nature. Other things to note This is not a "party house". We respect your full use of the entire property, and we hope you likewise respect the fact that many people will continue to use and enjoy it. The house is perfect for one or more families and friends to live in a beautiful and peaceful setting.
