Barn House near Portsmouth, NH.
* Featured in JustLuxe magazine in 2014* The Barn House occupies space in the original 1850’s barn located on the outskirts of historic Portsmouth, NH and just 7 miles from the ocean. Access to the Barn House is through a set of French doors leading directly from inside the barn. Both spaces are filled with antiques, loaded with charm and ready for your adventure. The space Guests access the space through the original 12 foot barn doors into a open area structurally unchanged from 1850. This unheated space is considered a “3 season covered porch” and includes sitting areas where you can check out the antiques and other “finds”. When the weather is nice, the back door of the barn will be open to the rear of the property which includes gardens and stone walls. The living space is accessed through 2 French doors inside the barn. Step in and enjoy the open post and beam space filled with antiques. The flooring, recovered from a barn in Maryland tells its own story of a place in time. Radiant heat under the floor ensures you’ll stay toasty warm in cooler weather. The kitchen has a 6 burner Wolf range with oven, Carrara marble counter tops and deep farmer sink. There is no dishwasher (except for my husband but he’s not included). Most cooking pots are either antique Guardian Ware (aluminum) or cast iron. Read up on the history of Guardian Ware if you’re interested. A large dining table fabricated from a door found in the barn loft and a sewing machine base help to create a fun dining experience. Read the story about the lost letter found in the original sewing cabinet and the path taken to find its owner. A 1920 Glenwood wood fired cook stove sits between the living room and dining area and used to supplement the heat in cold winter months if desired. The living room has a couch, leather club chair and beautiful antique chinese furniture. A large wall mounted tv uses Roku to access local stations, Netflix and other networks. High speed WiFi is included through the house and barn. There is an accessory door leading to the west side of the property through the single bed room. The master bedroom is located at the end of the hall. It has a queen size bed with memory foam mattress and luxury linens. A flat screen tv is mounted on the wall. A pocket door separates the bedroom from the bathroom. An oversized walk-in tile shower with waterfall shower heads is a nice comfort feature. The main bathroom door is actually an original door from the interior of the barn. Note the name of the family who owned the property from the early 1800s. Guest access Guests have shared access to the central open barn area and the exclusive access to the barn home pictured in the posting. A loft/storage space accessed by ladder inside the barn home is not considered living space and is closed to guests. Other things to note A sweet friendly female German Shepard lives on the property. Her name is Aspen.
