Enjoy our cozy cabin with hiking, fishing, and relaxing in rural North Carolina. The Appalachian Trail just 2 miles away. Elk River Falls is an easy hike. A full kitchen invites you to cook. Roast s'mores on the fire pit. Dine on the porch or enjoy the patter of rain on the roof, or snow in the winter. Play movies on the blue ray/DVD. Free electric vehicle charging. Four miles from Elk Park (pop. 800), a truly remote getaway. Privacy and intimacy guaranteed! The space Our 400-square-foot tiny-house cabin in the woods is close to streams, hiking (Appalachian Trail), state parks, and the majestic, 50-foot, Elk River Falls. It is nestled on a steep forest slope at an elevation of about 3000 feet (900 meters). The cabin can sleep up to 5 guests. (The love-seat folds out into a small bed. It is suitable for children or adults up to about 5’10” tall. The mattress is 33” x 72”. This is 5 inches narrower and 2 inches shorter than a standard twin.) The bunk beds are located in the hallway between the kitchen and the master bedroom. They are comfy but not a separate (second) bedroom. You’ll love our place because of the cozy cabin atmosphere, covered porch, large fire pit, and spacious open deck with a woodsy view of the river. Pisgah Getaway is great for couples, solo adventurers, families with kids, and nature lovers. There's a television monitor with a DVD/blue ray player in the bedroom, plus a huge library of DVDs. (The television doesn't receive broadcasts such as satellite or cable.) There is an additional television monitor with a DVD/blue ray player in the common area. ***WiFi limitation: To state this bluntly, but in all good humor, please don’t pig out on the WiFi. We bought the maximum data plan offered by our carrier for this remote rural area – 15 gigs per month. It is meant for your convenience, so you can stay in touch with the outside world, search for local shopping, restaurants, etc. check your email, do a bit of social networking. But if any of our guests use WiFi to watch video, this generous but limited amount of data access will quickly go up in smoke, and the guests who come after you may not have the convenience of fast WiFi. So: No videos, no YouTube, no Netflix, no Hulu, no S-k-y-p-e or FaceTime – you get the idea. If you want video entertainment, we have a lot of DVDs you can play in the great room or the bedroom, or you can bring your own. See House Manual in cabin for WiFi user-id and password. You will have access to all the cabin space, large outside fire pit area, lighted parking area with free, level-2 charging for an electric car, and the entire cabin property down to the river. Parking area is 17 feet (5 meters) wide x 42 feet (13 meters) long. Check the fridge or counter top for a complimentary bottle of wine. The cabin property borders Pisgah National Forest. You can hike in the woods at your own risk. There is much wildlife in the area: We've seen lots of turkey and deer, and the occasional bear and beaver. So far we've identified 47 species of Spring wildflowers on our 1.3-acre property! Enjoy! Guest access You will have access to the entire "tiny-house," mountain-side cabin, large outside fire pit area, lighted parking area with free, level-2 charging for an electric vehicle, and the entire cabin property down to the Elk River. To open the front door, you will receive a private access code that is unique to each booking. Other things to note Elk River Road is accessible, though Google Maps has reported otherwise. In this remote area, some cell phones work better using our wifi connection. There is also a tabletop phone that works well with the local cellular tower. Please do not feed or harass the wildlife. NO HUNTING or discharging firearms on the Pisgah Getaway property. What you do in the neighboring Pisgah Gamelands is up to you – just keep it legal! Do not use fire pit under windy conditions or if there is a burn ban. Call Avery County Fire Marshal (see phone number in House Manual) for burn ban conditions. Please do not use charcoal or lighter fluid in the fire pit. We provide plenty of free kindling and fire wood for your use. The Elk River is a great trout stream. You will need a North Carolina Basic Inland Fishing License to fish in the river – $18 for 10 days or $36 annual license. In addition, for trout fishing, you are required to have a "Trout Privilege" rider – $13, even for fly fishing catch-and-release. Contact the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission for more information or to purchase a license (phone number in House Manual). Or you can purchase the licenses locally at Brinkley Hardware in downtown Elk Park. Fishing is allowed year round except the month of March. Do not fish in neighbor's property, upstream from Pisgah Getaway. That is trespassing. Our property extends downstream just after you cross the little dirt footbridge and extends to the middle of the river. You can also fish in Pisgah Gamelands, which is downstream (to the right of our property as you face the river). ***Swim in the river AT YOUR OWN RISK. Keep children under close supervision near the river. Although we have provided life-saving equipment at the river, neither Pisgah Getaway nor its owners will be held liable for any injury or damages associated with activities in or near the water.***
