A quiet comfortable retreat with many extras, one of them location -- just one mile to the FDR and Vanderbilt sites and the Hudson River; 3 miles to The Culinary Institute; 8 to The Walkway Over the Hudson, and 11 to Rhinebeck. When the day is done, come back to a cloud-top queen bed, comfy reading chairs and Keurig with Peet's coffees and herbal teas, microwave and mini-fridge. A wooded back yard offers seasonal river views and a patio perfect for morning coffee and watching the sun set. The space The front door to the home is for guests only. The suite, just a few steps away, features a small foyer, sleeping/living space outfitted with comfortable armchairs, reading lamps, TV with Roku, desk/table and chairs, a "mini kitchenette" and an adjoining private bath with tub/shower and vanity space. Four windows in the sleeping/living room and one in the bath provide excellent natural light and wooded views. Guests are invited to enjoy the backyard and patio facing the river and mountains, where you're likely to see deer, bunnies, wild turkeys, and dazzling sunsets. Creature comforts include: Queen bed with cloud topper Desk/table with ample surface for working or dining and stocked with desk supplies, placemats and napkins Seating space with two comfortable chairs, reading lamp, side table and pouf stool TV (basic cable and ROKU with Netflix and Amazon Prime) WiFi "Mini kitchenette" with small fridge, microwave and Keurig and stocked with Peet's coffees in dark, medium and light roasts; caffeinated and herbal teas; dishes, glasses, cutlery and utensils Central heating and air-conditioning Private bath with shower/tub, vanity, lighted makeup mirror Essential oils and diffuser Backup toiletries Terry cloth bathrobe and slippers Hardwood floors in main space and foyer, tile in bathroom A charming brick patio enclosed by a white picket fence and set with Adirondack chairs, a bistro table with chairs, and sun umbrella. The woods in the backyard are on a hillside sloping down to the river. Guest access Parking is in the private driveway. The front door has a keypad and is for guests' use only. During your stay After welcoming you and making sure you're comfortably settled in, I'm readily available for assistance. At the same time, I like to preserve your privacy. Please be aware that there is one sweet kitty in residence. She's not allowed in your room, but she's likely to greet you at the front door. Other things to note I don't serve breakfast but there are nearby places that do, several in walking distance. Everybody loves The Eveready, a Fifties-style diner that's been featured on "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives." The suite has a "mini kitchenette" with fridge, microwave, Keurig, dishes, glasses, cutlery, and a toaster by request -- just about everything but the kitchen sink, but not to worry, I do your dishes. You'll find plenty of fun things to see and do within walking distance or less than a 3-mile drive: FDR and Vanderbilt sites Eleanor Roosevelt's Val-Kill home The Culinary Institute of America Sake Brewery Dassai Blue (tours and tastings) Kayak lessons/rental Good walking trails, some along the river Drive-in movie theater (one of only 350 or so left in the US) Seven-screen movie theater with first-run movies and small-town prices The Eveready Diner, a retro- style local favorite featured on "Diners, Drive-ins and Dives" Dairy Queen; McDonald's; 2 locally-owned Italian restaurants, 3 Mexican restaurants including one with authentic Oaxacan food, a Sushi place, and a breakfast/lunch cafe Roller skating center Excellent wine & spirits shop Beverage store with an extensive beer selection Antique shops and consignment store Emergency Medical Center (not fun, but good to know it's there) The Walkway Over the Hudson, for fabulous walking and views, is about 8 miles away in Poughkeepsie Dutchess Tourism's website is a super source for things to see and do.
