In addition to the natural beauty and relaxation of our Cabin and the surrounding State Parks, there are many commercial activities easily accessible from our facility. These include: 18 Public golf courses within 20 miles 3 Downhill ski slopes; Jack Frost, Big Boulder, and Camelback 10 Regional wineries 3 Horseback riding venues Pocono International Raceway A host of historical and quaint venues such as Eckley Miners' Village, Lehigh Tannery, and Jim Thorpe Our premium whirlpool tubs in each room downstairs and main bedroom upstairs are specifically designed by Sanijet. Each tub is equipped with six independent motorized jets. There are no pipes to hold standing water and the specially insulated motors are extremely quiet. We selected these special "ductless" whirlpool tubs to ensure the highest degree of cleanliness while providing the ultimate relaxing experience. First-floor rooms were designed based upon the various hardwoods found around the five-acre property: maple, birch, oak, and cherry. Each room has its own unique qualities and views of the wooded estate. The common area includes a large entertainment and sitting area with a state-of-the-art big screen and surrounds sound for movies and special TV events. A movie theater in the basement, playroom with billiards, arcade, air hockey, and ping pong table. A three-story stone fireplace offers a place to relax on comfortable chairs. The dining area is open to the kitchen and can seat 20+ people -- Winter at Hickory Cabin offers the cold weather enthusiast a host of activities. Snow begins to fall typically in mid-November through mid-March in the Poconos. The Hickory cabin itself is located at a 1200 ft. elevation making for spectacular winter views outside each guest room window while you can remain warm and cozy inside your individually thermostatic controlled room with a fireplace. The Pocono region features three downhill ski resorts; Jack Frost, Big Boulder, and Camelback. Both Hickory Run State Park and Lehigh Valley Gorge State Park offer endless miles of trails for cross-country skiing and snow-shoe hiking. Winter is also a time to enjoy the state parks. Most trails are open for hiking, snowshoeing, and cross country skiing. Some trails in the State game lands and State Parks that surround the Inn at Hickory Run allow snowmobiling. Please feel free to ask us about the location of trails and appropriate requirements for use. There are a host of winter activities not far from the Inn that makes for a fun stay. Spring Spring at Hickory Cabin brings streams full of snowmelt. It is the perfect time for white-water kayaking, rafting, and the start of the fishing season. The Francis E. Walter Dam releases water to the Lehigh River on a regular basis throughout the spring and summer months delivering water flow for Class 2 and 3 whitewater. Several outfitters are available in White Haven for the run down to Jim Thorpe. Located less than four miles from the Lehigh River in White Haven, guests can enjoy a hearty breakfast before a half or whole-day 30-mile white water adventure to Jim Thorpe or Glen Onoko. Golf courses begin another season of enjoyment, the bike trails are ready, and there are endless miles of back roads to enjoy motorcycling. Fishing season begins in April with river fly-fishing, small stream bait fishing, as well as lake fishing in state game lands and in the park. Summer Summer at the Hickory cabin offers plenty of recreation. The days are warm, the nights are cool, and the humidity is low. It is the best time of the year for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, golfing, and touring the historical sites of the Pocono region. The Pocono Raceway heats up in June with the annual Pocono NASCAR Race. The Inn at Hickory Run is also a partner with Stock Car Racing Experience at Pocono Raceway. The race track is only a couple of miles away from the Inn. Book your reservations early to ensure the room and days are preferred Summer is also a time to explore the history of the Poconos including Eckley's Miners Village, Jim Thorpe, and Lehigh River canals and railroads. The wineries offer a wide range of local vintages and in most cases, you can enjoy a meal with your wine tasting experience while enjoying breathtaking views of the Pocono mountains. Fall Fall is by far the most colorful season at the Inn. Beginning in mid-September, the birch, maple, oak, cherry, and other hardwoods turn the region into a splendid display of foliage colors. The scenery while hiking the trails of Hickory Run and Lehigh Gorge State Parks is spectacular. The Audubon Society's car touring route passes right in front of the Hickory Cabin if you like to drive, or you can simply enjoy one of the area's many fall foliage festivals. Fall is also the best season for biking the Lehigh Gorge Trail. The trail can be accessed near the Inn and runs for more than 25 miles down to Jim Thorpe. Many of our guests enjoy a breakfast with us, ride down to Jim Thorpe for lunch, and return to the Inn for an enjoyable evening at one of many local restaurants. Golf courses remain open until early November. Fall is also a time to get one last kayak run on the Lehigh River or to catch the native trout that have eluded spring and summer anglers. Nights are cool, but you will enjoy relaxing next to one of our outdoor fireplaces near our waterfall. Enjoy an evening outside under the stars; there are no city lights here to obstruct your view.
