Waterfront bungalow in woods of Lake Wabasis INCLUDES PONTOON, BUNKHOUSE, DOCK & KAYAKS (from early May to late October, weather permitting). This double-lot rental delivers 3 distinct vacation experiences: lakefront living + backcountry camping + local adventuring. The space The bungalow is situated on Lake Wabasis in a heavily wooded area. It features a backyard bunkhouse & vernal pond full of wildlife. The front yard is filled with flowers, shrubbery and a lawn that ends at our sandy beach at the Wabasis shoreline. Wabasis is the largest, all-sports lake in Kent County. It's approximately 2 miles long with excellent fishing year-round. What makes Lake Wabasis truly special, however, are its 418 acres of primarily undeveloped wetlands. A large inland lake with so much natural shoreline is a rarity in West Michigan. The complementary use of our pontoon (guests reimburse only for boat gas) adds a lot of value to the lake life experience. Available from early May through late October (weather permitting), it's a 22' boat that seats up to 8 people. It was completely refurbished with new flooring, upholstery, and a 40 hp outboard motor. It's ideal for cruising the lake; picnicking on the water; and/or dropping anchor to swim & float the day away. A boating license is not required (but all drivers must be at least 25 and sign a compliance/liability waiver). The boat is moored onsite at our floating vinyl dock with swim platform (which is approximately 170' from the bungalow's front door). The dock itself is more than 70' long; so even though a neighbor moors his small pontoon here, too, there's still plenty of room if you want to bring your own boat along? This mid-century bungalow was recently renovated and christened "THE NESTING LOON BUNGALOW". From inside, the views of lake, sky, and pond are unobstructed & spectacular. And the woodlands which surround the house provide extreme privacy in the back yard. The Nesting Loon can accommodate UP TO 7 PEOPLE in 2 separate dwellings on the property: the main house (open year-round) and a backyard bunkhouse which is accessible May through October (weather permitting). What follows now is a more detailed/lengthy description of the property and its many amenities. The house layout was reconfigured as open-concept with oversized windows lining the entire front. All these windows enhance the outdoor views while also increasing the sense of interior space. It's a very welcoming and relaxing environment that's also been made more comfortable with the addition of central cooling/heating & ceiling fans; high speed WiFi; and advanced water filtration & softener systems. The main house SLEEPS up to 4 PEOPLE in 2 bedrooms which both have closets and dressers. (The master has a queen bed; the second bedroom contains a set of twin bunk beds.) The backyard bunkhouse SLEEPS up to 3 MORE PEOPLE in 1 queen bed with an overhead twin loft. BUT ONLY DURING WARMER-WEATHER months (typically from early May through late October). The bunkhouse is approximately 100' behind the main residence and is equipped w/coffee bar and apartment-sized fridge/freezer; table w/4 chairs; ceiling & portable fans; and a small, electric fireplace w/space heater. But there is no AC, furnace, running water or bathroom. All mattresses are high quality and have retained their 'new' feel. Every bed has a combination of hard and soft pillows (each covered with zippered protectors). All mattress & pillow protector pads, bed linens, blankets, and duvets or coverlets are replaced with fresh sets for each guest visit. Other things that have proven popular with guests include the bungalow's high-end furnishings & stylish decor, as well as the many amenities which are included. The interior space was designed for style, comfort, and intimate gatherings with family and/or cherished friends. There is an L-shaped leather sectional sofa and 4 chairs (with 2 additional folding chairs available). And the cottage is filled with original artwork & decorative artifacts, many of which were created by Michigan artists. The dining area looks directly out onto the water and accommodates 6. There is also seating for 3 more on upholstered, full-back bar stools at the adjacent island. The kitchen is outfitted with premium appliances, including a Jenn Air gas stove w/electric oven; Maytag French-door refrigerator & dishwasher; microwave; Keurig latte/cappuccino machine (as well as drip-brew and French Press coffee makers); and an electric goose-neck tea kettle. The kitchen is also fully stocked with cooking, baking & outdoor grilling gear, including: blender, toaster, griddle, waffle iron, electric stand & hand-held mixers, pop corn maker, crock pot, electric roaster oven, homemade ice cream maker, electric wok, bread maker, electric can opener, rice maker, electric fondue pot, enamelware grilling pan, shish kabab skewers, metal roasting sticks, anodized pots/pans, baking sheets, meat thermometer, casserole dishes and more. There are a variety of cooking, baking, and serving utensils such as: measuring cups & spoons, spatulas, funnels, tongs, whisk, ladle, graters, peelers, multiple chopping tools, glass & wood cutting boards & knives (including 15 pc set of Cuisinart cutlery) and meat mallet. Plus mixing bowls, bottle opener, metal colander, mesh strainers, lemon squeezer, garlic press and more. There are also different sized trays, platters, trivets, bowls, sauce cups, and specialty accessories like appetizer plates, corn cob holders & trays and mesh food covers. And the kitchen is equipped with large sets of china plates & bowls, stainless flatware and glassware (along with a small supply of paper & plastic versions for outdoor use). There are wine glasses, champagne flutes, bottle stoppers, a wine-saver vacuum pump, and a wine-bottle chill rod. The kitchen is also stocked with a broad assortment of essential cooking/baking materials & ingredients to kick-start meal prep (i.e., limited quantities of each to tide you over) until you can get to a local grocery store. This includes sugar, artificial sweeteners, honey, flour, spices, seasonings, herbs, liquid flavor extracts, olive & cooking oils, balsamic & rice vinegars, baking soda & powder. Plus popular sauces (Worcestershire, A1, Heinz 57, Tabasco, soy, and BBQ) and other condiments including ketchup & mustard. We also have an assortment of fresh Starbucks coffee beans (both regular & decaf) & Keurig pods, plus TAZO teas. Additionally, our starter supplies include plastic wrap, tin foil, parchment paper, food storage bags & plastic containers w/lids. We will also provide a couple rolls of paper towel & boxes of facial tissue; dishwasher pods, dish soap, sponge & dishcloth, and a few dish towels. The bathroom has custom tile finishes, copper sink and an oversized shower. We provide towels (both bath & beach), soap (bar & liquid) mesh shower sponges, shampoo & conditioner, facial cleanser & body lotion. We will also provide a few rolls of toilet paper. And there is a drawer with a small supply of essential health & beauty aids in case you forgot any, including toothpaste, toothbrush, mouthwash, floss; liquid & spray antiseptics, band-aids, gauze; analgesics; cotton swabs; make-up remover & sanitary pads; nail clippers, pumice stone; bug spray, calamine lotion; and mini-sewing kit). You will also find a heating pad, hot water bottle, and hair dryer in the bathroom. The main cottage also has a full-size washer & dryer in an enclosed, walk-in utility room. We supply small bottles of laundry detergent & stain remover, along with dryer sheets and spray starch. And we do have a small ironing board & iron available. The Nesting Loon is a very DOG FRIENDLY vacation rental. Guests are permitted to bring up to 2 small-/medium sized dogs (ie, < 70# each) for a single pet fee. The yards, however, are not fenced. But there is an overhead zip line with dog trolley in the heavily shaded back yard. And we can also provide spiral ground stakes with cables for the front yard/beach. We also have dog towels & blankets; bowls for dog food & water; and poo bags. Additionally, we do have doggie life vests available in several (but not all) sizes for small and medium dogs. Our large front yard is ideal for lawn games. In summer we provide: 1) croquet, 2) badminton, 3) volleyball, 4) horse shoes, 5) bean bag toss, 6) wiffle ball toss, 7) swim floats, 8) adult & child-sized snorkeling gear, 9) beach toys, and 10) a couple of fishing poles with a few pieces of tackle and net. The fun at Wabasis doesn't end on Labor Day, however. The Nesting Loon is a 4-season vacation destination. Autumn is especially scenic in such a densely forested area. You'll see an exuberant display of colors throughout the property. And enjoy panoramic vistas from the pontoon boat while out on the lake. (Kayaks are put away in mid-September, but the pontoon boat is typically not stored until late-October, weather permitting.) Wintertime is also incredibly picturesque and serene here, which makes for cozy weekend getaways. The snowfall is typically heavy (65.2" per year on average) and perfect for sledding & tobogganing on gear we provide. Ice fishing, skating, hockey, cross-country skiing and snow mobiles are also popular here, but you'll need to bring or rent your own equipment. Plus there is a downhill ski facility in nearby Cannonsburg (only 12 miles away). For indoor entertainment, the bungalow is equipped with a large screen smart TV w/Xfinity and streamed content from Netflix, Amazon Prime & SiriusXM. Plus a DVD player & large assortment of family & children's DVDs. Guest access You'll have the entire bungalow and bunkhouse to yourselves. And during warmer weather months, the kayaks & pontoon boat are included for your exclusive/private use (AT NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE, except boat gas reimbursement). The 70' dock is semi-private; it's shared w/1 neighbor (who moors his pontoon there). The Nesting Loon is located in a small, verdant cove on a big all-sports lake. Our secluded neighborhood (which has only 25 residences) is reachable through a 14' wide unpaved road. This gravel-topped lane dead-ends 8 houses beyond ours. But this private dirt road does pass in-between our property's two lots, which creates a narrow line of demarcation between the front yard (w/beach, dock, & boats) v. back (w/bungalow, vernal pond, & bunkhouse). However, these last few feet of our private road serve only a handful of residents (so it gets minimal & slow-moving traffic). My co-host and I both have our own cottages on Lake Wabasis (a few doors away). So we can usually respond quickly/personally if guests have questions, needs and/or special requests during their stay? Other things to note NEARBY ACTIVITIES Although Wabasis Lake is located in a rural and bucolic area, there are several nearby venues for additional fun. Local activities include antiquing in many/any of the 19th century towns nearby; picking fresh fruit at family orchards; visiting an Amish community for home made cheeses, baked goods, handwoven baskets and handmade furniture; horseback riding; and walking/hiking/biking the Fred Meijer Heartland Trail (42 miles of pathways through farmland, forests & several small towns). There is also a guided river fishing tour you can charter. Other local venues include public golf courses, an auto racetrack, craft breweries, and a downhill ski resort (which hosts outdoor concerts in summer). Plus there is a petting zoo and 2 different entertainment centers for kids (with go-karts, arcade games, mini-golf, bumper boats, & zip line). If your preferred form of entertainment is to hunker down and relax at home, we have an extensive collection of jigsaw & crossword puzzles; family board games; cards, dominoes, backgammon, cribbage & chess; and DVDs. There are also books for all ages, as well as children's playthings (e.g., building blocks, dolls & doll house, stuffed animals, kid-puzzles and coloring books.) GUEST REQUIREMENTS All adult guests and any daily visitors are required to read house rules and sign a compliance agreement & liability waiver upon arrival.
