Mill House Retreat
The Mill House Retreat is a 2 story loft set in a park like setting next to the Sugar River. Built in 1864, this stone grist mill has soaring 15ft ceilings, original fittings and luxurious finishes. You will be greeted by chesterfield sofas, a large bar, a copper tub and comfortable beds. Just minutes to bike trails, live music, restaurants, and bars. Guests are welcome to have local friends over to enjoy the setting and reminisce. Madison, New Glarus and Epic are just minutes away. The space The retreat is over 1800 square feet and features the original gears and mill fittings from 1864. It has a custom 17 foot breakfast bar for all your entertaining, comfortable seating areas and beautiful architecture. The two stories make it perfect for families, 2 couples vacationing or one couple who just want to enjoy an amazing space. There is a cocktail bar and tap room on sight! We also have put in a 3 smart tv's, feel free to stream what you like or enjoy Netflix on us! It is located above a charming liquor boutique and gift shop. We specialize in liquor tastings and take pride in our crazy collection. The space, though private, is above a functioning active business and during store hours some noise can be heard as there is no actual door to close, but a large stairwell that provides complete visual privacy. Please note, the steps to the mill are historical as is the mill, they are steep. Our store is generally does not open until 11am (Sundays during the summer we open at 9am for Farmers Market )and is usually closed by 9pm. We are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays for the entire day. Please note that fireplaces are turned off June 1st through Sept 31st. The Mill itself is a grand old building, but like all older buildings has its quirks and character flaws. Please note that it occasionally gives us grief in the form of a bat or a flying insect. This is very rare, but if the weather is just right, it can happen. We have had taken all the measures available in this modern age, but sometimes mother nature still wins. Other things to note We have amazing food, art and music in Paoli. You can walk through town and enjoy little gift shops, wine and spirit tastings (and yes, that means whiskey, scotch, gin, vodka and more), well known artist and fly fishing on the Sugar River. We also have canoe and kayak trips available through Sugar River Outfitters.
